Beating Bipolar Naturally?

May 21, 2008 trailerparkbarbie

An Albertan women says a controversial nutritional supplement gave her her life back. Autumn Stringam suffers from bipolar disorder. As Michelle Skerman reports, she is now sharing her story with others.

They’re a picture perfect family, but the Stringam family in Coaldale, Alberta wasn’t always this idyllic.

There is a video at the link below but I tried about 10 times to upload it and couldn’t. So, you can watch it there.

The Rest Of The Story

I’m interested to know if anyone has tried this. If so, how did it go?

BPC….what do you think of this?

    (((UM)))),
I’d love nothing more than for this to be something I could rely on. Right now, I’m having seizures. At least we THINK they’re seizures… I’m seeing a neurologist on Tuesday. Maybe it’s caused by my meds. I hope so. I hope it’s nothing heinous. *crosses fingers*. All this medicine in my body has GOT to be wreaking havoc, right?

and Along comes something natural? Hell, I’d take it IF it worked, but I have REAL concerns about it… NOT concerns that it’s natural… NOT concerns that it could HURT me,…. just concerns that it’s a bunch of hogwash and that the people TAKING the meds were just going through a few minor “mood swings” that were going to pass, and that they weren’t REALLY bp… don’t you?

Cause if I could stop these meds, I would! And if that would stop my seizures too… I’m all for it… but I am leary… why? I dunno… seems too good to be true? Seems like if it was THAT easy… wouldn’t someone have WANTED to make it easy on us BEFORE now? Are drug companies REALLY THAT HEINOUS that they would WANT us to take these godawful meds JUST to make money without EVER CARING that they’re leaving us with horrible side effects like seizures, and changing our entire personalities with their meds, and they are making our lives miserable, by putting on weight, and causing eating disorders, and making us hermits, and ruining our sex lives, therefore our married lives, relationships, fucking up our families forever sometimes with meds…. we go through MANY MANY changes with bp, and it doesn’t help that the pain and getting used to the side effects of these meds often make us withdrawn, angry, volatile, make us lose our creativity, our drive, our sexual feelings for our partners, make us lose all hope for our lives, and yes… sometimes even make us LOSE our lives because we can’t handle the depression anymore.

Doesn’t it make you angry, sad, upset, and a myriad of other feelings just to THINK that someone HAS the “formula” to “cure” bp naturally, all this time, and they’ve kept it from us JUST to make money?

It pretty much pisses me off to think that it MIGHT be true.

That’s how I feel about it… How about you?

My son and I tried orthomolecular treatment. He for bipolar disorder, I for depression. It was not a roaring success for either of us, although Margot Kidder, actress and personal acquaintance, swears that it saved her life. Depends on your personal chemistry.
I’ve been enthralled reading your posts and invite you to visit *click commenter’s name for link/ad whatever* ~d

Two of my three children have bipolar disorder and I’ve lived with depression (well-managed for many years now) my whole life.
As a writer, I switched gears after my kids’ diagnoses and began writing, speaking and advocating for the mentally ill and those who love them.
I update my blog M-F with current science & research based material, along with a fair amount of motherly love and acceptance. The site also has loads of information and links for anyone dealing with bipolar disorder or depression.
You may also want to read my new book:
MOMMY I’M STILL IN HERE: One family’s journey with bipolar disorder.
It has been praised by Tipper Gore, Rosie O’Donnell and Maria Shriver, among others.
I hope you soon visit and go to the ‘contact Kate’ page. Let me know what you like, dislike, want more of, and could do without.

If the kindling hypothesis for bipolar disorder is true — and everything points to it being true, from Andy “Electroboy” Behrman to Jerod “Crazymeds” Poore — “alternative” management of bipolar disorder is plain dangerous.

The kindling hypothesis _could_ be false, but are you really willing to risk it?

If kindling is true, wouldn’t all roads lead to anti-seizure meds as the treatment of choice-until they get their asses in gear and find something better? That’s what I’m thinking. Makes sense to me.

It is tough to do on your own, so many variables. The side effects of the meds plus all the withdrawal symptoms when you titrate, plus the emotional health and well being or lack thereof, its a real roller coaster ride. There is a place in San Francisco that helps people to stabilize and to titrate, under medical monitoring, precise testing etc. If you need a label, you won’t be labelled there – but you will find people who know how to restore your health, physical emotional and mental. Contact me and I’ll tell you more.

hey im a 17 yr old girl from ontario canada and i was diagnosed with bipolar almost a year ago . Now being a highschool student who self medicated with E + weed for a long time before being diagnosed i have a bit of a beef with meds…. why because why is it that i have to wait anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months to “see if the meds work” mean while i take one hit of a street drug and i feel beter asap….. i vote we employ dealers to make better drugs.

    amen and amen

i have to wait anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months to “see if the meds work” mean while i take one hit of a street drug and i feel better asap

    I hear that. Why don’t they…? Because of $$$$$
Safety my ass. I’ll take the side effects (checks for side effects…feels none…using responsibly) of a street drug over the shit they RX any day…..*slaps self* get to work on the new post…prolly tonight.

I totally agree with dev. I have so many friends telling me I should “seek help” and “get medicine” whenever I say that I’m stressed, or feel anxious, etc. What kills me is, these people smoke just as much as I do and they know how calming mj can be, but they still insist man-made chemicals are the way to go. I’m like “if I have a chemical imbalance, adding more chemicals won’t necessarily help. I’m not a pool. I don’t have an ‘ideal’ pH!”

I’d like to know why their side effects are instant; but they say to wait weeks to months for it to work…wtf is up with that line of crap? Plus, they are physically addicting & the withdrawals are equal to or worse than a lot of other things. The safety profiles suck serious ass (more-so than street drugs (that would be even safer if regulated and legalized)….and prove to me “chemical imbalance” I’ve yet to see the science, just differing theories…that change like the weather.

I vote for Dealers who give us what we KNOW works. Smoking weed is far less harmful in my opinion that shoving colorful pills and capsules down our throats.
